Shri Meenakshi Pancharathnam in Sanskrit ( श्री मीनाक्षीपञ्चरत्नम् )
Shri Meenakshi Pancharatnam (five jewels of Goddess Meenakshi) is a hymn praising the Goddess Meenakshi. Shri Meenakshi Pancharatnam was composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya and it beautifully describes the attributes of the Goddess. . ‘Meenakshi’ is a combination of two root words; ‘mina’ meaning fish and ‘aksi’ meaning eyes. Thus it implies ‘the one who has eyes like that of a fish.’ Goddess Meenakshi glances and looks after her devotees as fishes look after and protect their younger ones with their eyes. This grace also earns Her the name ‘Angayarkanni’. Ancient stone inscriptions refer to Her as ‘Thirukamakottathu Aludya Nachiyar.’ Sundareshwara, Her consort is the embodiment of super consciousness, expressing in human body, playing with all His glory. Goddess Meenakshi is an Avatar of the Hindu Goddess Parvati - and consort of Shiva. She is considered as a form of Goddess Lalitha Tripurasundari, one of the Dasa Maha Vidhyas. Amma is the grandeur of the super consciousness, the masculine principle and the beauty of feminine consciousness expresses in the saguna form of Meenakshi. Their chief abode is the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. Mother Meenakshi radiates Her compassion to everyone and captures everyone’s heart with Her miraculous healing powers. Beside Shri Meenakshi Pancharatnam, there are several other great hymns on the goddess, composed in the later centuries by many saints and scholars including the famous Neelakanta Dikshitar.
